A Delightful Escape: Two wonderful Days in Bath, England

Bath is the perfect city for a weekend getaway. This city is in rich history, has stunning architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene.

So for these reasons, me and my friend decided to spend two days in Bath. It was the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure. From its iconic Roman baths to the picturesque Georgian architecture, Bath is a must-visit and if it’s not on your bucket list of places to visit in England then you should add it.

Below is a guide to how we spend 2 splendid days in Bath.

Getting Around in Bath:

Bath is a pedestrian-friendly city, and many of its attractions are within walking distance of each other. Me and my friend just walked everywhere and it was like 3 minutes from one attraction to another.

However, you can also get on a hop-on-hop-off bus to explore the city.

You can also use public transport which is quite good throughout England, Bath. included.  Consider purchasing a Bath Day Rover ticket for unlimited travel on the buses.

You can check the Bath Day Rider Ticket. Click here for more information.

Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

As soon as he got off the train we planned to go to the hotel and leave our belongings but as we were walking we were in the town center and decided to start exploring straightway since our backpacks weren’t heavy at all.

However, if you prefer walking without carrying a  backpack  you can head to your accommodation and leave your belongings.

Things to Do in Bath:

1. The Roman Baths:

Begin your exploration of Bath with a visit to the iconic Roman Baths. Dive into history as you wander through the remarkably preserved ancient bathing and socializing complex. Don’t miss the chance to sample the mineral-rich waters believed to have healing properties.

2. Bath Abbey:

Adjacent to the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Take a guided tour to learn about its history, marvel at the stunning stained glass windows, and climb the tower for panoramic views of the city.

3. Pulteney Bridge and Weir:

Stroll along the picturesque Pulteney Bridge, one of only four bridges in the world lined with shops. Capture the perfect photo of the River Avon and the Pulteney Weir, a tranquil spot that provides a peaceful break from the bustling city.

If the weather allows you can also sit in the gardens and admire the river.

4- Jane Austen center

Immerse yourself in the world of the famous author Jane Austen at the Jane Austen Centre. Gain insights into her life, explore the Regency era, and participate in engaging exhibitions. Don’t forget to dress up in period costumes for a truly immersive experience.

5- Royal Crescent:

Take a stroll to the Royal Crescent, one of Bath’s most iconic landmarks. Marvel at the grand Georgian architecture and explore the museum housed within No. 1 Royal Crescent, a beautifully restored townhouse offering a glimpse into 18th-century life.

6- Thermae Bath Spa:

Indulge in ultimate relaxation at the Thermae Bath Spa, Britain’s only natural thermal spa. Enjoy the rooftop pool with breathtaking views of the city or unwind in the various thermal pools, steam rooms, and saunas. Treat yourself to a spa session for the perfect ending to your Bath getaway.

This was my favourite part of the trip, me and my friend had a massage and were so relaxed. If you book the spa without any complimentary treatment is much cheaper but if you want the full experience then you should book a massage, facial or any other treatment of your choice.

Restaurants/Cafes in Bath

Bath has many great restaurants. The city boasts a diverse culinary scene, with options ranging from traditional British fare to international delights. I was delighted as I am a foodie so I loved the fact I had so many good choices in Bath.

- The Pump Room

For a taste of authentic local dishes, try The Pump Room, known for its elegant setting and classic British menu. The inside of the restaurant is just splendid, the staff is so sympathetic and the food was delicious. We had the afternoon tea and the price was reasonable given that is a very popular restaurant.

There was live music and you have views of the Roman Baths.

TIP: we were very lucky and managed to get a table on the day but this rarely happens so I advise you to book well in advance!

- Raphael

If you want a more contemporary dining experience you should head to Raphael restaurant. The food was spectacular! I highly recommend this restaurant if you visit Bath.

- Cornish bakehouse

There were so many cornish bakehouse cafes in Bath, we couldn’t resist as every time we passed by one they had freshly baked cornish pastries and it smelled amazing!

There is a reason why they have won an award for these pastries, I can attest that they are delicious and worth every penny!

- Sally Lunn- Eating House & Museum

Sally Lunn in Bath is a charming historic eatery nestled in the heart of Bath. Renowned for its buns, a unique cross between a bread roll and a sweet cake, this quaint establishment boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere. With a history dating back to the 17th century, Sally Lunn’s has become a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a taste of Bath’s culinary heritage.

Me and my friend had to wait in a relatively big queue for quite some time in order to get a seat, but it was worth the wait.

Once again we indulged ourselves with a delicious afternoon tea and savoured the iconic Sally Lunn bun with cinnamon butter and the traditional Sally Lunn tea.

Overall I enjoyed this trip a lot. Bath is a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty and offers a perfect destination for a two-day escape.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a literature lover, or a relaxation seeker, Bath has something for you. So, pack your bags and immerse yourself in the charm of this picturesque English city for an unforgettable experience.
