25 Jul 10 Reasons to Travel Solo
Travelling solo is one of the best things I ever did. I highly recommend everyone to try it at least once in their life. It will take you out of your comfort zone and make you grow so much. Travelling solo gives you freedom to do what you want whenever you want. It is a great experience!
Here are 10 reasons why you should travel solo.
1. You become more independent
When you travel alone you become more autonomous, more responsible, more alert and aware of your surroundings. When you travel alone you are free, you think for yourself and act for yourself.
2. Gives you more confidence
Going far away from home by yourself challenges you, it takes you out of your comfort zone and allows you to confront things that you probably never would go through, this helps you become more a more confident with yourself.
The more you put yourself out there the more confident you become and the less fearless you will be.
3. You become more responsible
When you are on your own, you can’t blame someone for the mistakes you make, you need to take responsibilities for your actions. If you decide to sleep longer and miss the train that’s your fault, if you forget to book a bus to a different city that is on you.
No one else will tell you what to do, you need to figure out by yourself and need to pay more attention and deal with the consequences of your actions.
4. You learn more about yourself
When you travel alone you find your truly self. You take more responsibilities and become aware of what your limits are, as you take on new experiences and learn about other cultures you become more open minded and more confident in being alone.
Travelling alone gives you opportunity to ask questions to yourself and sometimes you also find the answers for those same questions.
5. You meet new people
I believe that half of my best friends I met whilst I was traveling solo. Contrary, of what some people say it is easy to make friends when you travel alone. You can meet people in a hostel, walking tours you can even become friends with the local people. All you need is simply to say hello and from there the conversation will strike, you can ask for directions and tips or what brings that person to that place. With social media is even easier to remain in touch with people we meet along our travels.
You will share memories with them that you will treasure forever.
6. You can create your own itinerary
I enjoy travelling with friends and family but seriously travelling alone is the best because you can simply do whatever you want whenever you want! You can plan your day/time the way you want, if you want to stay the whole day at the beach doing nothing you can do it without having another person complaining about it.
Additionally, you are in control of your own budget you don’t have to worry about someone because you want to go to a more expensive restaurant or because you want to splurge a bit more.
You are your own master.
7. You become a better traveller
The more you travel alone the more open minded you become. You learn from the experiences you get on the road, you become a better observer of the places and people around you. Learning about the culture, interacting with other people, trying to learn a new language, being outside of your comfortable zone makes you grow as a person and makes you become humbler and more patient.
8. You will become more comfortable being alone
By being alone, you will enjoy your own company, learn that it isn’t that scary to have dinner in a restaurant alone, or to sit and watch sunset by yourself.
You will have enough space and time to have your “me time”. Travelling solo allows you to get to know yourself better, to gain clarity, and think about your present life and the future and perhaps establish new goals.
Solo travel permits you to disconnect with the world and connect with yourself.
9. You become more flexible
I cannot count the number of times things didn’t go as I planned whilst travelling solo. I mean I dealt with unpredictable weather patterns, frozen debit card, flight delays, language barrier and so on. When you travel solo you become more flexible and a problem solver. Alright, if the weather isn’t as nice as I thought it would be instead of hitting the beach, you can go to the museum, if you card is frozen learn how to budget better the rest of the money you have. After a while you start going with the flow and don’t worry/stress so much.
10. Become fearless
Putting yourself in new situations maybe be dauting at first but I assure you that with time you get used to it and end up enjoying it. You will learn how to deal with the challenges that you face on your solo trip, you will become more vulnerable and more exposed, however you will learn how to adapt, and this will boost your confidence and give you more courage to do things you wouldn’t normally do.
